Sello Matena matriculated in 1986 and has completed a Secondary Teacher’s Diploma with Technikon of Northern Transvaal. He is currently doing his B.Compt with UNISA.

Mr Matena worked for Sasol Infrachem from 1990 to 2000 as a Process Controller. He  then moved to Metsimaholo Local Municipality as a Councillor (ANC). He was a Member of Mayoral Committee for Finance, IDP and LED from 2000 till 2010. Mr Matena is currently the Speaker of the Council.

Sello Matena joined the ANC in 1993 and became branch executive of Sasolburg in 1999. He was then elected as the Branch Deputy Chairperson in 2001 and later elected in 2002 as the Branch Chairperson to date. He served as a Chief-Whip from 2007 to 2010 and as the SACP branch secretary (2002-2009), also as SANCO Regional Chairperson(2005-2007).
