Robinson Thekiso matriculated from Mmanotshe Moduane High School and passed with a Matriculation  Exemption in 1997 and started his tertiary education at the University of Johannesburg and obtained a BTech Degree in Civil Engineering (Construction Management).

He further developed himself with Pretoria Technikon doing a Municipal Management Programme to which he has a certificate and also did Project Management, Planning and Control and obtained a certificate of accreditation.

He started working for Rhino Plant Civils as a Technician for a year (January-December 2002) and moved to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (SDC) as an Engineering Technician for a project which lasted for six months (January-June 2003). He then was employed by City of Johannesburg/ Johannesburg Road Agency as a Project Manager from July 2003 to July 2004.

He then joined NFM Multi Consulting as a Projects Manager responsible for projects in Municipal Infrastructure and Roads from July 2004 to July 2005. He started to work for Rustenburg Local Municipality as a Manager of Water Services and Sewerages Unit (Capex and Opex) from August 2005 to April 2007; he was then promoted to Unit Head of Roads and Stormwater Unit (Capex and Opex) in April 2007 to September 2009.
